Shane Mangan, Shane Malone, Martin Ryan, Jason McGahan, Cian O’Neill, Con Burns, Joe Warne, Denise Martin & Kieran Collins

A study, led by Shane Mangan examined the GPS data of multiple intercounty Gaelic Football teams, across a 5 year period to put these myths to the test. The study assess running in two ways considering the total distance covered and the total high speed running distance covered by teams. It examines the relationship between both of these and the match outcome to identify whether running has a statistically significant impact on winning. The maths and analysis of this paper is technical but well explained and offers extremely eye opening conclusions. It is most certainly worth your time to give it a read.
